By following Jesus’ example as a teacher, teachers can reflect God in their actions as they serve others. Even though not all teachers teach on the Bible, their role as they explain God’s creation and the works of His hands can bring Him glory. These verses shed some light on what the Bible says about teaching and teachers, and some of them can even bring encouragement to teachers as they work whole-heartedly unto God while serving others.


What Does the Bible Say About Teaching and Teachers?

Old Testament

Job 12:7–10
“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
Who among all these does not know
that the hand of the LORD has done this?
In his hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all mankind.

Job 36:22
Behold, God is exalted in his power;
who is a teacher like him?

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 2:6
For the LORD gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;

Proverbs 9:9
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.

Proverbs 11:25
Whoever brings blessing will be enriched,
and one who waters will himself be watered.

New Testament

John 13:13–14
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

1 Corinthians 15:58
