Though dating is not a biblical term, God’s Word has key precepts for life and relationships that can be readily applied to this period of life. These verses highlight certain principles that can be applied to dating relationships, and they also outline the essential way that God calls His church to treat one another in all circumstances, which can specifically be applied to dating.

What Does the Bible Have to Say for Dating Couples?

Old Testament

Proverbs 31:10
An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.

Song of Solomon 8:4
I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.

Ecclesiastes 4:9–12
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

New Testament

1 Corinthians 6:18
Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

1 Corinthians 10:31
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

2 Corinthians 6:14
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

Ephesians 4:2–3
With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

2 Timothy 2:22
So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

1 Peter 3:8
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
