Fathers have a unique responsibility in the lives of their children. Though this role is challenging, God given a perfect example of what being a father means: by reflecting God’s character to his children, fathers have a clear path to follow with their children. God loves and disciplines and teaches us in the same way that fathers should. These verses offer encouragement and instruction for any new dad.


What Does the Bible Say to New Dads?

Old Testament

Psalm 103:13
As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.

Psalm 127:3
Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,
the fruit of the womb a reward.

Proverbs 3:11–12
My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
for the LORD reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights.

Proverbs 20:6–7
Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love,
but a faithful man who can find?

New Testament

Luke 15:20
