The Bible is profitable for every situation; it teaches us how to live according to God’s way in every season of life weather you are a child, a parent, a spouse, or single. God is concerned with your devotion and love for Him, and everyone who is part of the church is ultimately apart of the Bride of Christ which, unlike earthly marriage, is an eternal and never ending union with Christ. Paul devotes much writing to the subject of the Corinthians’ marital statuses, and reminds those in the congregation that are single that they can serve the Lord in a unique and meaningful way that is honoring to God. These verses provide direction and reminders to everyone that the ultimate goal of your life, no matter your marital status, should be to live for God and look forward to His coming.

What Does the Bible Say About Singleness?

Old Testament

Psalm 37:3–4
Trust in the LORD, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

New Testament

Matthew 6:33
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Mark 12:25
For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

Romans 12:1
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

1 Corinthians 7:8
To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am.

1 Corinthians 7:17

1 Corinthians 7:24
So, brothers, in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God.

1 Corinthians 7:32–35
I want you to be free from anxieties. The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But the married man is anxious about worldly things, how to please his wife, and his interests are divided. And the unmarried or betrothed woman is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to be holy in body and spirit. But the married woman is anxious about worldly things, how to please her husband. I say this for your own benefit, not to lay any restraint upon you, but to promote good order and to secure your undivided devotion to the Lord.

2 Corinthians 6:14
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

Ephesians 5:5
For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

Revelation 19:6–7
Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out,
“Hallelujah!
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
