Times of great despair and sadness can feel incredibly isolating, heartbreaking, and unending. God is near to the brokenhearted; He cares for and loves His children in every season of life and is near to those who call on Him. Nothing—not even deep depression or periods of mourning or sadness—can separate you from the love of God. These verses encourage us to call on God and remind us of His unfailing love and comfort.
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psalm 103:13

that your promise gives me life.

Lamentations 4:21-26
But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
2 Corinthians 1:3–5
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
