No matter what your age is God wants you to walk in a manner worthy of Him and lead a holy life. While teenagers are still under the supervision of parents, they are also old enough to make decisions for themselves. Solomon knew this and wrote Proverbs as a way to give advice to the young people of Israel (perhaps even his own children), so that they would know the difference between right and wrong, and between wisdom and foolishness. Teenagers can learn important lessons from Proverbs as well as the basic commands for all Christians so that they can live wisely and maturely throughout their younger years and into adulthood.

What Does the Bible Say to Teenagers?

Old Testament

Deuteronomy 6:5
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Proverbs 3:13–15
Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding,
for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
and her profit better than gold.
She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.

Proverbs 15:5
A fool despises his father’s instruction,
but whoever heeds reproof is prudent.

Proverbs 16:32
Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.

Proverbs 29:11
A fool gives full vent to his spirit,
but a wise man quietly holds it back.

Ecclesiastes 11:9
Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes. But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Ephesians 6:1–3
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

Philippians 4:6
do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Colossians 3:2–3
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

1 Timothy 4:12
Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

2 Timothy 1:7
for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

1 Peter 3:8
Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.

1 John 1:9
