Comfort is a persistent and essential part of God’s character. The psalmists speak of God’s guiding presence, promises, love, and commands as comforting realities that they consistently rely on and ask for. Those who believe in Jesus have the comfort of the Holy Spirit that binds us together with those who are suffering—not simply in affliction but also in comfort (1 Cor 1:3-7). As people of the God of comfort we receive His comfort and also reflect His character by comforting others around us.
