God cares about family. The people to whom we are related are chosen by God, even if we feel our family is especially dysfunctional. What does God have to say about the family in His Word? Let’s find out.

Old Testament

Exodus 20:12
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Joshua 24:15
“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

1 Kings 8:57
“The Lord our God be with us, as he was with our fathers. May he not leave us or forsake us.”

from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,

to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.”

when brothers dwell in unity!”

Better is a neighbor who is near
than a brother who is far away.”

Isaiah 49:15-16
“Can a woman forget her nursing child,
that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.
Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.”
