Justification is one of the major themes throughout all of Scripture. As fallen people living in sin, justification is only available because Christ took death on behalf of those who put their faith in Him. Without this gift, there is no way to become justified in the sight of God. Scripture provides evidence of this reality, and reinforces the security believers have in going before God as sons and daughters in faith.

What Does the Bible Say About Justification?

And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.

John 1:12
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

John 3:16-17
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Romans 3:24-26
And are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Romans 3:28
For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

Romans 4:2
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God.

Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.

But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not!
