Conversations around gambling and Christianity have been on the rise the last couple of years because of the mass legalization of sports betting around the United States. Is it acceptable for Christians to gamble? Is it blatantly sinful for a Christian to bet money on anything? Is this a black and white area, or a matter of Christian discernment, wisdom, and freedom? The Bible does not get into the particulars of gambling, but it has a lot to say about casting lots, wise money management, and related topics. Below are a collection of those Bible verses.

Jonah 1:7
And they said to one another, ‘Come, let us cast lots, that we may know on whose account this evil has come upon us.’ So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.
Matthew 6:19–21
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:24
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
