Christians serve the God of love. What a gracious reality that is. Our God cares so deeply about the state and posture of our heart. What all does the Bible say about our hearts? Let’s look at some Scripture to see some of what it has to say.


What Does the Bible Say About the Heart?

Old Testament

Deuteronomy 6:4–6
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.

Joshua 22:5
Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cling to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Joshua 24:23
He said, ‘Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your heart to the Lord, the God of Israel.’

Psalm 23:14
And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.

1 Samuel 12:24

Ecclesiastes 9:7

Jeremiah 29:13

Ezekiel 36:26

Matthew 5:8

Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Mark 7:18–19

Mark 11:23
